Happy New Year!

Hello Floorball Families!

We’re looking forward to another great year for Junior Floorball in British Columbia.
There are lots of good things to report.  First, we’re delighted to announce that BC Floorball was recently granted funds by ViaSport and the Province of British Columbia to present the “Floorball Challenge”.  This is an initiative designed to introduce the sport to communities that haven’t yet had a chance to try it, as well as to support communities that have made a beginning and need help getting to the next level.  Over the next couple of months our dedicated BC Floorball volunteers will be getting people in the game, presenting the Floorball Challenge to community groups and schools all over the province.  If you know of a group that would like to know more about floorball, please point them to our website at bcfloorball.com, or forward the attached registration sheet to them.
Unfortunately, we just don’t have enough hands to do all the work, so we won’t be able to host our regular Junior Floorball sessions at Harbourside for the next few weeks.  We plan to restart Junior Floorball directly after Spring Break, on Saturday April 6th.  However, there are still lots of opportunities in the lower mainland for your young players to keep their skills fresh:
Delbrook Community Center North Vancouver
Tuesdays, 5:30-6:30pm 5-8 years  limited spaces still available for registration
Richmond Oval
Wednesdays, 4:00-5:00pm 9-12 years  spaces available for registration
West Vancouver Recreation Center
Thursdays  6:45-7:45 9-12 years  limited spaces still available for registration
In addition, please mark February 9th, 2013 on your calendar!  We’ve been invited back to present once again at Hockey Day in Canada, and we’re going to let our Junior Floorball Players take center stage, with a youth floorball tournament on site.  Please stay tuned for more details as we are given them.

Welcome Back Players and Parents! Autumn Seasons Begins Soon.

We hope you all had a great summer and now that everyone is back from the beach, it’s time to play ball! Our 2012 Autumn Season begins September 23rd so please register as soon as possible to secure your spot.

There has been a couple changes to note. The first change is the day we play. Last year was on Saturdays but this year it’s Sundays from 11am – 1pm (9-12yr olds are 11am to 12pm and 13-15yr olds are from 12pm to 1pm). Dates will be added to our league schedule soon but the last game of the season will be December 16th and there are no games on holiday weekends. Ages under 9, we encourage you to check out the classes available here.

The second change is that folks can still drop in, but only up to two times before they have to commit to the season.  $12.00 drop in fee, $120.00 for the season.

… AND ONE MORE THING!!!

We desperately need volunteers for these key roles:

  • Four  parent “Team Leaders” to help coordinate and build teams.
  • Fundraising Leader
  • Scorekeepers & Timers

City Fest @ Centennial Theatre parking lot this weekend

The City of North Vancouver has invited the Junior League to come out to Youth Fest this weekend and present our Sport to the community.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our young players to have the rewarding experience of acting as ambassadors for Floorball.  It is also a great way to help grow our league, which will directly benefit our players by:
  • Adding more teams for healthy competition
  • increasing funds for new equipment
  • adding parent volunteers to the pool of helpers
There will be no league games at Lions Gate this weekend - the boards, equipment and games will be at the festival, behind Centennial Theatre at 23rd and Lonsdale, right next to the Skate Park.  We will have dedicated court time for our youth players at the following times:
  • Hockey I (5-8yrs) will be playing at 12 noon
  • Hockey III (13-15yrs) at 1pm
  • Hockey II (9-12yrs) at 2 pm
Lots of additional time will be available, both for our league players, and for attendees of the festival, so this is the perfect time to introduce the game to your friends.  Drop by and try out the game anytime during the festival hours of 12 noon to 4pm, at no charge!  There will be lots of other fun activities for the kids as well – live bands, food, skate boarding, and so much more.  See the attached printable poster for more details.
If you would like to help out during the festival, we would love a few more volunteers to help with setup, knockdown, running the games, and of course manning the table, to chat with the festival attendees.  Just drop me a note and I’ll forward you to the right place!
Looking forward to seeing you there!
